| I peeked inside our classroom
                          And discovered Mrs. Root
Was absent -- in her place
 There sat this ugly substitute.
 She wouldn't know our faces,
And she wouldn't know our names.
She wouldn't know the pranks we'd play.
 She wouldn't know our games.
  She wouldn't have our fingerprints.
                          She wouldn't know who's who.
She wouldn't have the slightest hint,
 She wouldn't have a clue.
 Perhaps she thinks she's
clever, But we'll have to wait and see.
I'm going to get another kid
 To substitute for me.
